The Man on the Train is a 2002 french film about a man, Milan, a thief, who arrives at a small town in a train to meet his confederates for a heist and finds the hotel is closed. Milan meets a retired teacher, Manesquier, who is to undergo a life changing surgery, who offers him shelter and with whom he forms an unlikely respectful relationship. As they talk and learn about each others life, they individually learn that they envy each others lifestyle and imagine how their lives would have turned out better if they were in each others shoes.
